Mystery Class is a free program that runs yearly online for kids to learn about time, earth rotation, the equinox, and how everything fits together with geography.
All materials and resources are available right on their website for you to print. The way it works is every week you collect the sunrise and sunset for ten mystery locations. You calculate the photo period and document it on the graphs and charts provided. You look up the sun rise and sunset of your current location and document that as well to compare to the other locations.
We usually don't use the journal pages, but this year we are going to incorporate them.
This continues each week from the end of January until the middle of April. By observing the photo period trends on our graphs, calculating the longitude on the equinox, and answering the clues given for each geographical location you should be able to identify each mystery location by the end of the classes.
If your family is unschooling like us you will be happy to know that whether you continue on for the entire time or not your family will still learn a great deal and gain some amazing skills in the process.
